As the youngest of eight children, whose father had a watch and clock repair shop, Isaac Kauffman learned to repair clocks at the age of 13. He eventually repaired all of the clocks that came into his father's shop, while his father focused on the watches.
Moving into the construction business, Isaac spent six years in this career, but knew that he wanted to have his own business, as his father had, but not full time clock repair work. Since Isaac had enjoyed the duties of his teen years working in his father's shop, he began to experiment on his own. In 1980, he built several Grandfather Clocks in the basement of his parents' home and one year later built his shop, opening Kauffman's Handcrafted Clocks in February of 1981.
Isaac specializes in Grandfather and Grandmother Clocks, and has crafted over 500 since 1981! And, over the years, he has also handcrafted several styles of Mantle and Wall Clocks.
